Job Overview
The Data Privacy Officer will lead AirtelTogo Ghana’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with Ghanaian Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant regulations. This senior role involves developing policies, conducting privacy impact assessments, and advising business units on data handling practices. The officer will act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, manage data breach response, and promote a privacy‑by‑design culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures aligned with the Data Protection Act and international standards.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new projects, products, and services, providing actionable recommendations.
- Serve as the point of contact for data protection authorities, handling inquiries, audits, and compliance reporting.
- Lead incident response for data breaches, including investigation, notification, and remediation.
- Educate and train employees on privacy principles, fostering a culture of data protection across all departments.
- Monitor legislative developments and update internal frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with legal, IT security, and product teams to embed privacy‑by‑design into system architectures.
- Maintain records of processing activities (ROPA) and oversee data subject request handling.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of Ghanaian Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior leadership, regulators, and cross‑functional teams.
- Proficiency in drafting privacy policies, notices, and contractual clauses.
- Experience with privacy management tools and data mapping techniques.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
Education
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Advanced certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence in data privacy.
Experience
A minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security is required. Candidates should have a proven track record of implementing privacy programs within large organizations, preferably in the telecommunications or technology sector.
Salary
