Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to lead our technical service team in Techiman. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, schedule, and mentor a team of biomedical equipment technicians, ensuring optimal productivity, technical competency, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for all assigned medical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Lead complex troubleshooting, repair, and calibration activities for high-end diagnostic imaging and patient care equipment, serving as the technical escalation point.
- Manage inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and test equipment, ensuring availability and cost-effective stock levels.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all service activities, work orders, equipment histories, and compliance reports in the company’s digital service management system.
- Liaise directly with hospital administrators, clinical engineering departments, and healthcare providers to understand needs, report on service status, and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local and international regulatory standards, including FDA, ISO, and Ghana FDA medical device regulations.
- Analyze equipment performance data and failure trends to recommend process improvements, training needs, and potential product enhancements.
- Coordinate with regional and global technical support teams to resolve complex technical issues and implement field corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Expert-level technical knowledge of biomedical equipment principles, operation, and repair methodologies.
- Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate, train, and develop technical staff.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex electromechanical and software-based system failures.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, multi-site environment.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), service databases, and diagnostic software tools.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with technicians, clinicians, and management.
- In-depth understanding of quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and risk management in a medical context.
- Financial acumen for managing service budgets, spare parts inventory, and resource allocation.
Education
A Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a directly related field from an accredited institution is required. Advanced diplomas with extensive relevant experience may be considered. Possession of or progress towards a recognized professional certification such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or similar is highly desirable and demonstrates a commitment to professional excellence in this field.
Experience
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of complex medical devices, with a proven track record of increasing responsibility. At least 2 years must involve direct supervision of technical personnel or leading service projects. Experience with GE Healthcare equipment is a strong plus, but expertise with other major OEMs (Siemens, Philips, etc.) is valuable. Experience working in a multi-hospital system or providing regional support is advantageous.
