Key Purpose of the Role
The Senior Specialist – Scheduling will lead short-term mine scheduling and planning functions, ensuring the successful delivery of operationally executable schedules. The role supports mining efficiency through effective resource allocation, technical coordination, risk identification, schedule monitoring, and integration with mining operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Specialist – Scheduling will be responsible for:
Short-Term Mine Scheduling
- Lead the preparation of short-term underground mine schedules aligned with operational objectives.
- Develop and maintain rolling 12-week schedules that support mining production goals.
- Ensure schedule readiness by validating operational inputs, timelines, dependencies, and execution logic.
- Coordinate scheduling priorities with mine operations and technical teams.
Planning & Technical Coordination
- Work closely with engineers, technical teams, and operational departments to ensure integrated planning.
- Align short-term schedules with medium-term mine forecasts and production milestones.
- Incorporate operational constraints and technical requirements into executable schedules.
- Support integrated planning discussions and operational readiness activities.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor schedule execution, planned versus actual performance, and physical progress.
- Conduct schedule variance analysis to identify operational delays and productivity risks.
- Prepare weekly and monthly planning reports for leadership review.
- Present mine schedules during planning meetings and technical forums.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor Scheduling Engineers and junior planning staff.
- Provide technical coaching and performance feedback.
- Support knowledge transfer and capability development across planning teams.
- Promote collaboration and continuous professional improvement.
Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Dedicate a significant portion of time to supporting mine safety compliance and a zero-harm culture.
- Ensure adherence to scheduling standards, operational procedures, and company policies.
- Contribute to the improvement of scheduling systems, mine planning processes, and reporting frameworks.
- Participate in Mine Operating System (MOS) planning and compliance reporting.

Required Education and Qualifications
To qualify for this role, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Advanced training in mine planning software, particularly Deswik, is highly desirable.
- A Professional First Aid Certificate is considered advantageous.
- MINCOM Shift Boss Certificate of Competency or a higher certification is desirable.
- Membership in a recognized professional engineering or mining association is an added advantage.

- Minimum of 8 years of experience in underground mine scheduling and planning.
