Job Overview
The Mining Operations Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs at the Tarkwa mine. Reporting to the Regional HSE Director, the incumbent will ensure compliance with local regulations, international best practices, and Gold Fields’ internal safety policies. This pivotal role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams, conducting risk assessments, and driving a proactive safety culture that protects employees, contractors, and the surrounding community. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety policies and procedures aligned with Ghanaian mining regulations and international standards.
- Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct regular site safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate safety training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills for all personnel.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and metrics for internal and regulatory reporting.
- Serve as the primary liaison with Ghanaian regulatory bodies, ensuring timely compliance and communication.
- Promote a culture of safety ownership among employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of mining safety regulations, ISO 45001, and industry best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven approach.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or NEBOSH are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in safety management within the mining or heavy‑industry sector, with a proven track record of reducing incident rates and leading successful safety initiatives.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based bonuses.
