Job Overview
The Agricultural Drone Pilot will play a pivotal role in Syngenta Ghana’s Precision Farming division, leveraging unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to collect high‑resolution aerial imagery, generate actionable agronomic insights, and support data‑driven decision‑making for smallholder and commercial farms. This position bridges the gap between advanced technology and on‑the‑ground agricultural practices, ensuring that drone‑derived data translates into improved crop health monitoring, variable rate application, and yield optimization. The role reports to the Precision Agriculture Manager and works closely with agronomists, data scientists, and field technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and maintain flight operations for fixed‑wing and rotary drones over designated farm plots, adhering to Ghana Civil Aviation Authority regulations.
- Capture multispectral, thermal, and RGB imagery to assess crop vigor, pest pressure, and water stress.
- Process raw data using GIS and photogrammetry software (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy) to produce orthomosaics, NDVI maps, and 3D terrain models.
- Collaborate with agronomists to interpret drone analytics and recommend site‑specific interventions such as fertilizer placement or irrigation scheduling.
- Maintain drone hardware, calibrate sensors, and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure optimal flight performance.
- Document flight logs, data quality reports, and compliance records for internal audits and client reporting.
- Provide training and support to field staff and partner farmers on safe drone operation and data utilization.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating commercial UAV platforms (e.g., DJI Matrice, senseFly eBee) and associated payloads.
- Strong knowledge of remote sensing principles, image processing, and GIS tools.
- Ability to interpret agronomic data and translate findings into practical farm recommendations.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail for data accuracy.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and farmer outreach.
- Familiarity with Ghanaian aviation regulations and safety protocols.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a related discipline is required. Certifications in UAV operation (e.g., Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Remote Pilot License) are highly desirable.
Experience
2‑4 years of hands‑on experience conducting drone flights for agricultural applications, preferably within Ghana or similar tropical environments. Experience with data analytics platforms and field agronomy is a plus.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 30,000 to SSP 45,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses linked to project outcomes are also offered.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision.
- Retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
- Annual leave of 25 days plus public holidays.
- Professional development allowance for certifications and conferences.
- Company‑provided laptop, tablet, and drone equipment for field work.
Training
- On‑boarding program covering Syngenta’s agronomic solutions and data platforms.
- Advanced UAV piloting and remote sensing workshops conducted by industry experts.
- Continuous learning sessions on emerging precision agriculture technologies.
Working Environment
