Job Overview
This role involves leading the documentation and digital preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage sites in Suhum. The specialist will utilize advanced mapping technologies, 3D modeling, and archival systems to create a comprehensive digital repository of cultural assets. The position aligns with UNESCO’s global Ghana Jobs strategy to empower local communities through sustainable heritage management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys to document historical sites, artifacts, and intangible cultural practices in Suhum.
- Develop high-resolution 3D models and GIS maps for heritage sites using photogrammetry and laser scanning.
- Collaborate with local elders, artists, and historians to record oral traditions and traditional knowledge systems.
- Design interactive digital archives accessible to researchers, educators, and the public.
- Prepare reports and presentations for UNESCO stakeholders and Ghanaian cultural authorities.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in digital archiving software (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager, ArchiCAD).
- Expertise in GIS mapping and 3D modeling tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp).
- Strong understanding of cultural heritage preservation methodologies.
- Bilingual fluency in English and local languages (e.g., Nzema, Twi).
- Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Digital Archiving, or related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred but not mandatory.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage documentation or digital archiving.
- Proven track record in managing heritage projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Salary
15,000 – 20,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
